Sky Earth Native America Has Now Been Published in TWO Volumes as Edition 2: General Description

Sky Earth Native America has been published as a book in TWO Volumes via CreateSpace.com and can be viewed at the following two links. Both volumes are "Edition 2" since there had to be a change made from "Edition 1", which is no longer published, and that is why this posting has been amended as follows:

Language: English. List Price: $49.99. Trim Size 7" x 10" inches viz. 17.78 x 25.4 cm. Full Color on White paper. 266 pages. ISBN-13: 978-1517396831 (CreateSpace-Assigned). ISBN-10: 1517396832. BISAC: History / Americas. Create Space Title ID: 5745813.

Both volumes have the same cover except that one has "Volume 1" on the front cover and the other has "Volume 2" on the front cover. The earth image on the cover was created using public domain space photos of the Earth from NASA.

Although this publication is primarily for my own records, there may be a few persons who are interested in acquiring these two volumes. The following two postings after this one present the Table of Contents of each book volume.

Both book volumes contain the following basic book description:
"Alice Cunningham Fletcher observed in her 1902 publication in the American Anthropologist that there is ample evidence that some ancient cultures in Native America, e.g. the Pawnee in Nebraska, geographically located their villages according to patterns seen in stars of the heavens. See Alice C. Fletcher, Star Cult Among the Pawnee--A Preliminary Report, American Anthropologist, 4, 730-736, 1902.
Ralph N. Buckstaff wrote: "These Indians recognized the constellations as we do, also the important stars, drawing them according to their magnitude. The groups were placed with a great deal of thought and care and show long study.... They were keen observers.... The Pawnee Indians must have had a knowledge of astronomy comparable to that of the early white men." See Ralph N. Buckstaff, Stars and Constellations of a Pawnee Sky Map, American Anthropologist, Vol. 29, Nr. 2, April-June 1927, pp. 279-285, 1927.

In our book, we take these observations one level further and show that megalithic sites and petroglyphic rock carving and pictographic rock art in Native America, together with mounds and earthworks, were made to represent territorial geographic landmarks placed according to the stars of the sky using the ready map of the starry sky in the hermetic tradition, "as above, so below".
That mirror image of the heavens on terrestrial land is the "Sky Earth" of Native America, whose "rock stars" are the real stars of the heavens, "immortalized" by rock art petroglyphs, pictographs, cave paintings, earthworks and mounds of various kinds (stone, earth, shells) on our Earth.

These landmarks were placed systematically in North America, Central America (Meso-America) and South America and can to a large degree be reconstructed as the Sky Earth of Native America."

eBook Conversion Tip for Authors: Kindle-Capable MOBI Files Created From Book Docs viz. PDFs Having Both Text and Images Using K2PDFOPT and CALIBRE

We make no warranty that this will work for you. Perhaps another, simpler method is available. When we first did this, none was. The procedure described below is complicated, but doable and it works for us. Here is what we do.

The objective: Creating a MOBI file usable in a Kindle publication when the book to be converted to Kindle format includes images. Normally, this can be difficult or impossible to do, since Kindle is set up mainly for text-based books. When we used the automatic CreateSpace link to convert our print book to Kindle, all we got back was impossible garble. We needed a different solution.

The method: Converting native (i.e. normal) pdf files of text and images to a pdf file consisting of each page as a singular graphic image page, i.e. including text and graphics as one image, which is then shown in that format on Kindle.

First: Create a normal "native" pdf file of your book from e.g. a .docx file which can be done in Microsoft Word (latest version) via the "Export" function under the menu item "File". This works for us in the subsequently described conversion procedure. We can not speak for pdf files created by other programs.

Second: Download and use K2pdfopt. Load that native pdf file into the file list of the program K2PDFOPT (download the version suitable for your system). K2pdfopt has dozens of commands for tweaking pdf files.

Our objective is to obtain each page of our book as a separate image for our pdf file and then automatically obtain a new pdf file of the whole book formatted in that manner.

Here is how you do it with k2pdfopt.exe.

The Command settings in k2pdfopt for conversion of pages as graphic images:

Load your normal "native" pdf file into the file list (do not click "native" ! in the lower commands or you just get a "normal" pdf file again).

Add these options from the options below that list:

Additional options:
  • enter exactly the following text with hyphens and space
    -bp -mc
Command-line version options
  • enter exactly the following text with hyphens and spaces
    -mode copy -de 1.5 -odpi 167 -h 1180 -w 800 -ws 0.2
Settings
  • Max columns: 1
  • Document Resolution Factor 1.0
  • Crop Margins (in): Left 0.00 Top 0.00 Right 0.00 Bottom 0.00
  • Pages to convert: (all)
Check (select) with the checkmark the following options:
  • Color output if your pdf has pages in color
  • Ignore small defects
  • Forget the rest unless you have special option requirements
At the right top of that same command page at k2pdfopt,
enter the following settings:
  • Device: Kindle 1-5
  • Width 800 px
  • Height 1180 px
  • DPI 167 (not sure if this is standard or determined by the pdf)
  • Conversion Mode: copy
Make sure the conversion mode is "copy". Then click "Convert All Files" and each page of your pdf will be converted to a graphic image, one by one as you can see on the screen. If not, you may have to reformat your Word file and make sure you have "page breaks" after each page or your result can lead to different pages on the screen than what you had in the original.

The resulting pdf is a pdf composed of each page of the original source converted to one graphic image (both text and graphic image parts). This, however, reduces what the reader can do with the text in Kindle but is better than any other alternative known to us. The reader can zoom any page like a graphic image for easier reading, which is not only useful for texts, but also great for graphic images. Negative is that the font and text sizes can not be changed as such per se but can only be "zoomed". But it works.

Download Calibre. That k2pdfopt pdf "image" file of a book can then be converted to the necessary Kindle "MOBI" format using the program Calibre which can be downloaded online at http://calibre-ebook.com/.

Load the resulting k2pdfopt pdf file into Calibre and select the "Convert books" option and then pick MOBI from the list of options. Calibre converts the pdf file to MOBI -- if memory serves correctly, placing it into an automatically created CalibreBooks directory in a file named after the book author. At least, that is what we use.

Download KindlePreviewer. Check now to see how the book looks with the KindlePreviewer, which allows you to see the book in all Kindle versions, also iOS. You can now upload your book to Kindle.

Caveat Emptor: Please note that we do not do any personal consultations on this matter. We are simply reporting our experience, and if it is useful to you, fine. If not, you may have to tweak your own solution. We have at least shown then how it "could" be done. Surely improvements are possible.

The Equator Megalith of Brazil Highway BR-174 North of Manaus near Rorainópolis, State of Roraima, Brazil : Is it Ancient? We Do Not Know But Suggest It Could Be, Even if its Use is Modern

Was the Earth's Equator recognized by the ancients through the Equinoxes? They might then have concluded that the Earth was a sphere. If they recognized the Equator, did they put up an ancient marker to mark its location? Well, they surely would have put up something significant if they had recognized it.

We note here for the record that when a straight line from Feniak Lake is drawn via Google Earth Pro not in sections but "ideally" from Feniak Lake in Alaska directly to Jabuticabeira in Brazil that line passes virtually through the Grave Creek Mound in Moundsville, West Virginia, sometimes claimed as the highest cone-shaped mound in the United States.

That could be pure chance, since there are always many possible locations that any line can pass through, or by, so we examined the course of that same line to see if we could find any other unusual things that might suggest that the ancients calculated such a line via the stars (as it was not directly measurable).

The distance from Feniak Lake to Jabuticabeira II is ca. 13700 km (nearly 9000 miles) and the line follows a bearing of 83.58 degrees i.e. ca. 84 degrees, so that this line deviates ca. 6 degrees from 90 degrees. That could be intended for survey purposes, as we noted for the Cahokia Birdman Tablet.

Can anything else of unusual significance be found on or near that line?

Indeed, near to that line in the Amazon Basin, there are virtually no through passages,  but there is in fact a giant megalith on the current Brazilian Highway BR-174 near Rorainópolis, State of Roraima, Brazil. Based on photos of people standing next to that standing stone (we presume it to be made of stone), that megalith must be 4 to 5 meters tall, and it modernly marks the Equator at ca. 0° 0' 0.00" N  60° 38' 58 W (plug that GPS location into Google Earth). The megalith also has a metal plank of some kind inserted as a marker.

There is only one passage road through the Amazon. As written at the Wikipedia, "BR-174 is a federal highway of Brazil. The 3,321 km (2,064 mi) road connects Cáceres to Pacaraima on the Venezuelan border. It is the only road connection of the state of Roraima with the rest of the country."

We have been unable to find any information online about the origin of the "Equator Megalith", nor even any indication of the material of which it is made. We presume it is natural stone found in the region. Striations can be seen on the sides. Traveling by Google's "Street View" on the BR-174 one sees some large megaliths and boulders along the road, one the size of a locomotive of similar color from which, indeed, the Equator Megalith could have been taken since the end of it seems to have been quarried. But when was that done? We do not know.

We are guessing that the Equator Megalith has been reappropriated for use as a modern marker of the Equator, but in ancient times could also have served to mark the Equator. The figure pair we see carved at the tip of the megalith -- this is very speculative ! since the figures are uncertain -- are similar to those at the Andromeda and Pisces Rock at Nazca (Nasca), as previously deciphered.

This megalith, in spite of a metal plank cut into it in the modern era, could be very ancient, as it appears to resemble a phallic symbol, something the ancients, based on our research, used in their megalithic exploits, e.g. the Stone of Manau at Clackmannan, Gaellic Clach Mhanain the "man's stone".

As we have previously deciphered in Stars, Stones and Scholars, the Stone of Manau marked the stars of Perseus, and the entire megalith taken as a whole here in Brazil also has the definite shape of Perseus, the stars of which marked the Vernal Equinox ca. 3000 B.C. Look at that stone carefully in the numerous online photographs and you will see it is not just a normal stone. Moderns would not have made a smooth "boulder" of that shape.

There also appear to be weathered figures carved onto the stone, and we have traced them from a clip of the Google Street View photographs as follows. As for whether this is a phallic symbol or not, we leave that for each reader to decide. Please note that this is science and not something else. Most of the photographs online of the Equator Megalith do not photograph the back, for good reason.

The Equator Megalith at Linha do Equador can be seen online at:
  • Google Earth at the setting ca. 0° 0' 0.00" N  60° 38' 58 W. The longitude given at the actual megalith itself on the metal plank is divergent from the Google Earth GPS.
The Equator Megalith is located not far from from Manaus, the capital city of Amazonas, Brazil, where, by Brazilian definition, "the Solimões and Negro [the Rio Negro] rivers meet in Manaus and join to form the Amazon River".

Manaus was named Manaós before 1939, and known as "the heart of the Amazon". It is the, perhaps coincidental, namesake of the Stone of Manau in Scotland, which we identified years ago also as marking stars of Perseus.

We might note that the question arises as to how the ancients would get to this Amazon basin location. For seagoing navigators, they would have taken the Amazon River by boat to the present location of Manaus. How they then got to what is now the area of Rorainópolis is a good question. Reino in Spanish and Portuguese means "kingdom, realm" so that this was the center, i.e. "polis" of that realm, whatever it may have applied to when originated.

Near the location of the "Equator Megalith" there appear to be rock outcroppings viz. intaglios in anthropomorphic form and they could be interpreted to paint an active scene. On the other side of the road there seem to be earthworks which could also be anthropomorphically interpreted, but this is all very speculative. We have deciphered them, but, frankly, they are not the kind of thing that we can publish. After all, there are 7 billion humans on the planet now, and they all got here by known means. In 3000 B.C., the message would fit the megalith. Research this matter further there at your own risk. We have enough trouble getting people to read our megalithic materials seriously without adding controversial stuff.

Petroglyphs of The Area of Slabs, Area das Lajes, Amazon Basin, Manaus, Brazil, South America Deciphered as a Sky Map ca. 3000 B.C.

The Area das Lajes ("Area of Slabs") was discovered recently (2010) in Manaus, Brazil on the drought-lowered Rio Negro River near its junction with the Amazon River. Found were petroglyphs of anthropomorphic figures, serpents and geometric figures, but as the river rose, these were lost again to the water: Megalithic.co.uk at http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=28047.

Some photographs of the petroglyphs were, however, published, prior to resubmergence. See:
We have deciphered the photographically published petroglyphs of the Area of Slabs (Area das Lajes) as a sky map of the stars ca. 3000 B.C. The key area for initial decipherment were the cupules of Perseus and Cassiopeia on the left side of the petroglyph slab. The rest of the figures could then be identified as a general matter, though questions remain. Perseus marked the Vernal Equinox ca. 3000 B.C. so that would appear to be the approximate date of the creation of the petroglyphs. We have a further confirmation of that date in the next posting via the Equator Megalith.

The petroglyphs on the Area of Slabs present a sky whose Equinox and Solstice points in the stars correspond to a date of circa 3000 B.C. with Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cepheus, Cassiopeia, Perseus and Taurus marked on the left, corresponding to the Vernal Equinox, and Scorpio marked on the right, corresponding to the Autumn Equinox.

Also marked are Corona Borealis, Boötes, Libra, Hercules, Draco, Andromeda, Pegasus, Pisces, Circlet of Pisces, Cetus, Cygnus, Aquila, Capricorn, and Sagittarius.

Two Major Panels of the Jeffers Petroglyphs of Minnesota Are Sky Maps ca. 750 B.C. Each Representing One-Half of the Heaven of Stars at Night: Minnesota Marks the Stars of Hercules

In this posting we present our decipherments of two major panels at the Jeffers Petroglyphs in Minnesota. The petroglyphs have been redrawn relying upon Figure 2 at Mark J. Dudzik, Visions in Stone: The Rock Art of Minnesota, The Minnesota Archaeologist, 54, 1995, p. 101, Figure 1. We have divided the one Dudzik image into two separate, larger graphic images since the petroglyphs otherwise would simply be too small for practical analysis.

Rock Art sites in Minnesota are located via a map at Mark J. Dudzik, Visions in Stone: The Rock Art of Minnesota, The Minnesota Archaeologist, 54, 1995, p. 100, Figure 1. A similar map is found via An Overview of Minnesota Rock Art at http://www.osa.admin.state.mn.us/mnarch/rockart.html,  at http://www.osa.admin.state.mn.us/mnarch/rockmap.html.

The locations could be interpreted as stars of Hercules, but at the moment, this is uncertain because the maps are not detailed enough at the individual locations to identify stars with certainty.

That latter map by Matt Kauia appeared originally in the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer, March-April, 2005, a bimonthly magazine of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, using the "source maps" by Mark Dudzik, Office of the State Archaeologist. To avoid copyright issues, we have completely redrawn all the maps as one, and including the "petroforms".

Rock Art Sites of Minnesota as Marking the Stars of Hercules

The geographic shape of the State of Minnesota in the United States is nearly identical to the shape of the modern constellation Hercules, whose stars -- according to our analysis -- its petroglyphic and pictographic ancient sites represent. Already in Stars Stones and Scholars we correctly assigned nearby Thunder Bay in this region to the stars of Hercules.

However, if one examines the history of the setting of boundaries for this State, then this similarity of shapes is seen to be simply chance. The shape is guided invariably by the physical topography, with the upper right "wedge-shape" fixed by Lake Superior and the lower right "wedge-shape" fixed by the Mississippi River and tributaries.

For the full history of the Minnesota boundaries, see William E. Lass, How Minnesota got its boundaries at https://www.minnpost.com/mnopedia/2014/06/how-minnesota-got-its-boundaries and William E. Location of the Mystery Eagle at the "Old" Pilot Mound, Manitoba: Aquila in the Ancient Land Survey of Native America by Astronomy

The hypothetical ancient Native America land survey map that we published in the previous posting had several crossing points for which we had no corresponding ancient rock art, megalithic, petroglyphic or other landmark site.

One of those mystery points was a major potential land survey and multiple Native American Indian trail crossroad -- in southern Manitoba, Canada, as already discussed for the La Reviere location as meeting place of many ancient Indian trails.

That crossing point is shown in the image below by the large yellow circle on an underlying Google Earth Pro map (copyright Google, presented here as fair use -- the text additions and interpretations are of course independently ours, as we not affiliated with Google). If this memory-intensive image does not resolve here see https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7mdqekfTprtD9RNLBCjNWw1Ilfb-FFNcsh31xT4sCPbHT1spExgLWFJdQXZ8lUeC_dlL7nj8R4ISR2pkUmzIpceFZKwtNFEYq2LJFPsu1aryV8pmJP8r0z8D2H5GfQUFBxO9C/s320/Native+America+Land+Survey+Manitoba+Eagle.png" style="" border="0" height="320" width="286"

Given that

-- all of our other very general and geographically loose (i.e. may not correspond to modern divisions) previous identifications inter alia of Alberta as Sagittarius, Saskatchewan as Scorpio, Montana as Boötes, California and Oregon as Virgo, the Southwest as Leo, Texas as Gemini, Mexico as Orion and Taurus, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as Auriga, Perseus and Pleiades, Florida as Cetus, Georgia as Aries and Pisces, Tennessee as Cassiopeia, Ohio as the Center of Heaven, the Peterborough Glyphs and vast surroundings as Cygnus (a change from Stars Stones and Scholars), Thunder Bay and surroundings, probably including Minnesota, as Hercules, and Cahokia as Ursa Major --

it could only be that
Manitoba by a process of exclusion had to be Aquila, the Eagle.

We thus said to ourselves, that there must be some marker there near that hypothetical land survey point, And so we combed the area via Google Earth Pro -- and, indeed, the missing, splendid EAGLE is exactly what we have found, unexpectedly as it were in the form we found it, as a relief somehow etched into the ground and still reflected by the topography of modern farming, a discovery which led us to issue the Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge.

The Mystery Eagle of Pilot Mound, Manitoba, Canada
Click the graphic for a larger image on your screen.

As one can read in the right corner,
the underlying image is copyright Digital Globe and Google,
and we use it here as fair use.

The Mystery Eagle is found just North of Pilot Mound, Manitoba, Canada, a town which was relocated from the "Old Mound" found at GPS N49.22472, W98.91239 i.e. 49.224720° (North) and -98.912390° (West). The head of the eagle is located just to the right of the Pilot Mound "old mound" (there is also a second potential head of a bird to its right).

The tailfeathers and talons of the Eagle are virtually right on the Manitoba Highway 3, the Boundary Commission Trail referred to in our previous posting on A First Nations Clue to the Location of the Eagle of The Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge: The Boundary Commission Trail as the Oldest Highway in the West and the Boundary Between the USA and Canada.

We have our EAGLE.

A Hypothetical Ancient Land Survey Map of Native America and the Cahokia Birdman Tablet Compared: A Provisionally Proposed Solution

Our proposed and "provisional" (while not yet finalized) Ancient Land Survey Map of Native America is compared in this posting to the Cahokia Birdman Tablet. Our intent is here not to allege categorically that this is so -- but rather to make sure that this possibility enters the discussion. It could be, or not.

We suggest by comparison of images that the Cahokia Birdman Tablet -- the official logo of the Cahokia Mounds site -- might record that ancient land survey by showing the horizontal lines of land survey for North America (as calculated by the stars) and the vertical lines of land survey for Central America and South America, corresponding to the red lines shown here on the Google Earth Map (and of course, the underlying map is copyright of Google, which we use here as "fair use" under the copyright laws).

Click the graphic to obtain a larger image on your screen. We have left the heart out of the Cahokia Birdman and will add it to the image when our land survey map is finalized.

Ancient Land Survey Map of Native America
and the Cahokia Birdman Tablet Compared
A Provisionally Proposed Solution

Remember that there is cross-hatching on the back of the Cahokia Birdman Tablet which would explain the use of the diagonal lines for land survey. That possible use does not exclude the tablet decipherment we presented previously. Both are possible at once.

The above proposed ancient land survey utilizes a Google Earth Pro map clip as the underlying map of North, Meso- and South America. The red lines have been added by Andis Kaulins using the Google Earth "ruler" menu "line" option, connecting various megalithic, rock art, petroglyphic, etc. sites.

Those lines are not perfectly straight nor did we expect them to be. They are approximations for a land survey surely carried out by astronomical measurement and not by straight line measurement. Note that we have retained the X-Axis and the Y-Axis identified earlier in this series of postings.

Perhaps straight lines were ultimately used for calculation.

Note how one can draw a relatively straight line from the Feniak Lake megaliths to Cahokia (Monks Mound), from Cahokia to Mound Key in Florida, from Mound Key to the lost city of Ciudad Perdida, and from Ciudad Perdida to Jabuticabeira II and the sambaqui of that region. Note that the Feniak Lake megaliths and the Ciudad Perdida megalith both use the same "incision" type of boulder marking.

If we do a straight line directly from Feniak Lake to Jabuticabeira -- without cutting the 14000 kilometers (ca. 9000 miles) into sections, that line on Google Earth passes directly through the Grave Creek Mound of Moundsville, West Virginia, the highest conical mound in the United States.

Is that chance? We do not know, yet.

Was a survey of this kind actually carried out in ancient days?

We at least raise that possibility, but much more work still needs to be done before any really certain conclusions can be drawn. This a work in progress.

Now let us go to the next posting and reveal the location of the Mystery Eagle of the Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge.

A Hypothetical Ancient Land Survey Map of Native America and the Cahokia Birdman Tablet Compared: A Provisionally Proposed Solution

Manitoba Manitou and the Eagle

In Native American Indian languages, Manitou means "the habitation of the Great Spirit".

The sacred bald eagle or golden eagle was seen as the messenger to the Creator, because it flew higher than all other living things.

Manitoba, Canada takes its name from Lake Manitoba and Manitou and even has a town named Manitou.

Lake Manitoba is marked by Manitou Island, home to the golden eagle.
See the Narrows West Blog.

There are also Bald Eagles in Manitoba

The Wikipedia entry to Manitoba, Canada, writes:
"The name Manitoba is believed to be derived from the Cree, Ojibwe or Assiniboine languages. The name derives from Cree manitou-wapow or Ojibwa manidoobaa, both meaning "straits of Manitou, the Great Spirit", a place referring to what are now called The Narrows in the centre of Lake Manitoba....
Manitoba would be a likely astronomical land survey location for the messenger of the Great Spirit, the Eagle.

The town of Manitou (Wikipedia) is a "community ... shaped like a right-angle triangle ...." It is this "wedge" form that is often used by the ancients to mark the stars of Aquila, the Eagle.

That Manitoba marked Aquila, the Eagle, would be logical for the most ancient survey of Native America, given our previous identification of the Native North America Mounds of Valley City State University in directly neighboring North Dakot, USA, as marking the stars of Ophiuchus, the neighboring large constellation to Aquila.

Manitoba Manitou and the Eagle

A First Nations Clue to the Location of the Eagle of The Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge: The Boundary Commission Trail as the Oldest Highway in the West and the Boundary Between the USA and Canada

Dare we mention as a Canadian prelude to this posting: Rose-Marie and Indian Love Call (listen here to Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy). It was my father's favorite musical, and his favorite song "Rose Marie" (Nelson Eddy) also in the Mario Lanza versionWe have opera singers in the near family.

In this posting we provide a "First Nations" clue in Canada to the location of the Mystery Eagle sought in the Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge in the previous posting.

With the aid of the following clue, a serious researcher should be able to find the "Mystery Eagle" via Google Earth.

Here is the clue, which touches upon the fixing of our modern-day land survey boundary between the United States and Canada. That boundary in part used ancient Native American Indian trails, one known initially in boundary-setting days as "the Boundary Commission Trail", "the oldest highway in the West", that ultimately stretched to the Pacific Ocean on the heels of ancient paths.

At vantagepoints.ca online, Teyana Neufeld wrote in 2009 about The Boundary Commission Trail, citing to
  • Duncan, Hal G. The South-West Corner. Altona: Friesen Printers, 1984, and to
  • Turner, Peter. “The Historic Forty-Ninth.” Historic Resources Branch Manitoba Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport. Misc. Materials Relating to Heritage Resources of the Turtle Mountain/Souris Plains Region of Manitoba. CD-ROM. Winnipeg: 2008.
"Though there is one period of its life that gives the Boundary Commission Trail its name, the history of the trail itself spans centuries, crosses cultural lines and involves a multitude of goals and purposes. Parts of it began as a First Nations travel and trading route, which the fur traders of the 18th Century took advantage of when they began penetrating the interior of the then-called Rupert's Land ...."
Go to that online resource at http://vantagepoints.ca/stories/boundary-commission-trail/ and read the relatively short story there about The Boundary Commission Trail, an ancient trail viz. trails that served as the basis for fixing (and land-surveying) the boundary between the United States and Canada.

The Mystery Eagle virtually has its tailfeathers and talons on that trail.

As written at the Boundary Trail Heritage Region website:
"The glorious history of this region stretches back to the prehistoric ocean of the Cretaceous era to the Mound Builders who came following the retreat of the glaciers of the last Ice Age and left their burial and ceremonial mounds throughout the area to mark their passage. Other aboriginal tribes who for untold generations successfully used buffalo jumps to turn herds of bison into food, clothing and shelter followed them." [emphasis added]
And since we do not want to make this too difficult and want you the reader to also experience the thrill of discovery, we add a final, additional clue from Graham MacDonald's, The Boundary Commission Trail and the North West Mounted Police: A Review of Site Development Progress, Manitoba History, Number 19, Spring 1990, Manitoba Historical Society at http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/mb_history/19/boundarycommissiontrail.shtml:
"Working from the survey maps, it quickly develops that one of the most intriguing spots along the old Boundary Commission Trail is that around present day La Riviere, east of Turtle Mountain. Here the maps show a great criss-crossing of trails moving east and west, north and south." [emphasis added]
La Rivière (Indian Name Wakopa), Turtle Mountain Municipality, Manitoba, Canada (named afer its founder, pioneer settler Bernard B. La Riviere), is located between Pilot Mound (see http://www.pilotmound.com/history.shtml) to the west (about 18 km viz. 11 miles distant) and Manitou to the east (about 11.5 km viz. 7 miles).

The Canadian Encyclopedia writes about Turtle Mountain Provincial Park that it was named after the Western Painted Turtle found in the park and that this region is very important (pre)historically because:
"This region is the oldest inhabited part of the province, since it was the first dry land after the last Ice Age."
The under-shell or plastron of the Western Painted Turtle has essentially the same shape as a Pawnee Star Map and even the represented colors correspond somewhat.  See generally Ralph N. Buckstaff, Stars and Constellations of a Pawnee Sky Map, American Anthropologist, Volume 29, Issue 2, April-June 1927, Pages 279–285, Abstract at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1525/aa.1927.29.2.02a00110/abstract, full article at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1525/aa.1927.29.2.02a00110/pdf, 28 October 2009.

Buckstaff writes in the above article:
"The “Eagle” is to the south of Lyra as pictured by the Indians.
...
These Indians recognized the constellations as we do, also, the important stars, drawing them according to their magnitude.
The groups were placed with a great deal of thought and care and show long study. They were drawn on the map first, and the stars in the background were put in later as the smaller ones do not show any interference with the constellations. The large groups were foremost in their minds, their relative positions one to the other being quite accurate. The fainter points of light were put in merely to fill the vacant spaces and represent suns of the lesser magnitude.
They recognized the seasonal shift of the stars. This is portrayed by the division of the map.
That they were keen observers, is also shown by the fact that they recorded some double stars. The map being three hundred years old would bar any white influence.
From the facts as we see them regarding the chart, the Pawnee Indians must have had a knowledge of astronomy comparable to that of the early white men."
The pilotmound.com history page writes inter alia about the "Old Mound" of Pilot Mound:
"The mysteries of the Old Mound continue to fascinate and unfold.

A recent book [cited book not found] suggests that the mounds on top of the Old Mound were not burial mounds but remains of astrological observation cones built of sod. These allowed the [makers] to accurately navigate the globe ... using archeological astronomy, [through which they] possessed the navigational knowledge necessary for global navigation....

With the town almost in its shadow, the Old Mound remains shrouded in mystery - an important part of our heritage."
To add to this posting both a romantic as well as land survey touch, we read about La Rivière, Manitoba as follows in Turning Leaves, A History of La Riviere and District, Foreword by Lois Creith, Convenor, La Riviere Historical Book Society, 1979, Printed by Friesen Printers, Altona, Manitoba, scanned online at manitobia.ca/resources/books/local_histories/154.pdf and available in book form at http://www.abebooks.com/9780889250628/Turning-Leaves-History-Riviere-District-0889250626/plp, ISBN No. 0-88925-062-6, Copyright 1979. The book begins with a poem well worth reading, of which we reproduce only the first lines here to avoid copyright issues (go to the original!):
"The La Riviere Hills
by Mrs. Mary Burnett (Plomp)

...
Tonight I am a monarch of all I survey...."
and that poem is followed by another, which we excerpt as follows

"The Old Home Town
 ...
Now myriad lights in the village gleam,
And talk with the twinkling stars above,
And stories are told of the days that were....
-   Walpole Murdoch"
But the Mystery Eagle is not at La Rivière.

The Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge and the Seven Principles of an Eagle: The Eagle as the Messenger to the Great Spirit, the Creator

No bird flies higher than the eagle.

The Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge and the Seven Principles of an Eagle lead into our coming postings -- including our provisional draft map of the ancient land survey of Native America - a map which we shall compare to the lines on the Cahokia Birdman Tablet, which may record that survey. Get ready.

The eagle was a supremely important bird to Native American Indians and we recommend highly the reading of "The Meaning of the Eagle Symbol" at WarPaths2PeacePipes.com, where it is written inter alia:
"The Native Americans consider the bald eagle and the golden eagle to be sacred. As eagles are the highest flying birds they were seen to be nearer to the Creator.... The meaning of the Eagle symbol was to signify courage, wisdom and strength and its purpose was as the messenger to the [Great Spirit]."
Even if one does not take up our Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge or even if one is not interested in ancient Native American peoples and customs, one should nevertheless do oneself a favor and read the fabulous online posting about the Seven Principles of an Eagle from Berean Publishers.

There could be something valuable there for everyone. Take a look.

Below now is the image for our Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge which we have clipped from Google Earth via Google Earth Pro and which of course is a photographic image in the copyright of Google and its affiliates.

Where is the site of that image located?

It is easier to find that Eagle in Google Earth using our provisional draft map of the ancient land survey of Native America -- indeed, that is how we found it.

It is very difficult to find that eagle otherwise.
We can already tell you that Google Image Search will not find it.
It is, as far as we can tell, fully unknown.

Please note, by the way, that we are not affiliated with Google in any way, who have nothing to do with this search or with this mystery, but it can be found via Google Earth viz. Google Earth Pro, and we will reveal its GPS location shortly.

Here is the image for the Great Google Earth Eagle Mystery Challenge:

Where is its location on Google Earth?
and,
should you be lucky enough to find it,
what is its significance, viz. why is the Eagle there?

Consider this....

WarPaths2PeacePipes.com writes inter alia:
"Native American Indians were a deeply spiritual people and they communicated their history, thoughts, ideas and dreams from generation to generation through Symbols and Signs such as the Eagle symbol. Native American symbols are geometric portrayals of celestial bodies....

The eagle had the ability to live in the realm of spirit, and yet remain connected and balanced within the realm of Earth. The eagle is therefore often connected with balance.... The Abenaki solar deity 'Kisosen' meaning "Sun-Bringer" was symbolised as an eagle whose wings opened to create the day and whose wings closed to create the night."
The realms of the Eagle -- both "sky" and "Earth" -- constitute the whole idea of the ancient land survey of Native America by astronomy, which was fully in concordance with the hermetic tradition, "as above, so below".

Hermeticism taught that there is only ONE theology of God for all men, given to mankind in antiquity, and that this theology is found in ALL religions:
"The tradition claims descent from a prisca theologia, a doctrine that affirms the existence of a single, true theology that is present in all religions and that was given by God to man in antiquity."
[emphasis added]
The fixed heaven of stars above was used by the ancients as a ready map, designed by the Great Spirit, the Creator, for mapping the Earth below.

And the Eagle, of course, was there.

Sambaqui viz. Sambaquis - The Shell Midden Mounds of Santa Catarina, Brazil in the Jabuticabeira Region Mark the Turtle viz. Tortoise of Heaven as the Stars of Columba at the Bottom of the World

This is a very significant posting for our work on the ancient land survey of Native America by astronomy, a project which is reaching a climax soon. The archaeological site of Jabuticabeira II in Brazil is the main most southerly significant "mound" site known in South America. As such, it will be involved in some astonishingly fantastic original findings in the next few postings.

The name Jabuticabeira is both the name of a tree that bears the fruit Jabuticaba as well as the name of an archaeological location in the Santa Catarina region of southern Brazil, an area which is marked by a number of sambaqui viz. sambaquis (it is unclear to us which form is the correct plural in English) ancient mounds formed by prehistoric peoples using shell middens.

The name Jabuticabeira derives from the Portuguese word "Jabuti" meaning "turtle" or "tortoise". Jabuticaba means "place of the turtle(s)". That name origin will prove to be important.

Jabuticabeira is described as follows by A.C. Colonese, Matthew James Collins, Alexandre Lucquin, Michael Eustace, Y. Hancock, Raquel de Almeida Rocha Ponzoni, Long-Term Resilience of Late Holocene Coastal Subsistence System in Southeastern South America, PLOS ONE, www.plosone.org, 13 April 2014, Volume 9, Issue 4, e93854, accessed at Research Gate:
"Jabuticabeira II (Jab-II), at ~7 km from the present day shoreline at Santa Catarina, is one of the best-studied sambaqui sites of Brazil.... The stratigraphic sequence is composed of alternating layers of marine shells and fish bones.... Numerous human burials and the absence of compelling domestic activities point to a ceremonial function of the site from 3,137–2,794 to 1,860–1,524 cal BP."
Pedro Ignacio Schmitz in Prehistoric Hunters and Gatherers of Brazil at the Journal of World Prehistory, Vol. 1, No. 1 (March 1987), pp. 53-126, published by Springer, http://www.jstor.org/stable/25800520, writes in the Abstract (here excerpted) as follows with relevance to the sambaqui(s):
"Around 7000 B.P., two new traditions emerged to exploit new habitats. The Humaitá tradition, characterized by large bifacial tools and an absence of stone projectile points, expanded over the broad-leaved forests in the south, leaving the open landscapes dominated by the projectile point-using Umbu tradition. The sambaqui (shell midden) tradition, also emphasizing large bifaces, developed along rugged portions of the southern coast. By 4000 B.P., groups along the coast of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo were using domesticated or semidomesticated plants, perhaps sweet manioc. Maize was being grown in Minas Gerais by about 3500 B.P. Carbon-14 dates from numerous sites indicate, however, that the hunter-gatherer way of life persisted in many places long after the advent of pottery-making horticulturalists." [emphasis added]
A map of the sambaqui in the Jabuticabeira region of Santa Catarina, Brazil (Brasil) was found online in Ximena S. Villagran, Paulo DeBlasis, Paulo C.F. Giannini, Primeros estudios micromorfológicos en sambaquís brasileños (sitio Jabuticabeira II, Estado de Santa Catarina). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp. 359-364. ISSN 1850-373X. Permalink http://ref.scielo.org/4j48wq.

We redraw that map further below in this posting for decipherment purposes, but we would like to emphasize that maps such as the one cited above are the soul of true archaeological research and we are grateful to the authors for the wonderful work done. Below we present their Resumen and Abstract of the above-cited article in both languages to do honor to their service. Their key finding is their conclusion in the last sentence of the Resumen viz. Abstract that the formation of the sambaqui sites "que transciende antiguas dicotomías funcionales" i.e. "transcends traditional functional dichotomies".

ABSTRACT

FIRST MICROMORPHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF BRAZILIAN SAMBAQUÍS, JABUTICABIERA II SITE, SANTA CATARINA STATE. In this note, preliminary results from the micromorphological study of the fish mound that covers the Jabuticabeira II sambaquí site, developed within the interdisciplinary research project Sambaquis e paisagem, are presented. Microstratigraphic analyses enabled the identification of anthropic pre-depositional processes that participated in the formation of this large structure, related to the burning and transport of mineral and organic material (terrigenous sand and charcoal) and inorganic residues of biological origin (bones, phytoliths, diatoms and siliceous aggregates). The effects of post-depositional alterations over these particles can be observed through dissolution traces in bone and the formation of a fine mineral material of phosphatic composition. The articulation of the evidence confirms the complex combination of activities and alteration processes involved in the formation of sambaquí sites, which transcends traditional functional dichotomies.

In other words, these mounds were not created just by ancient peoples throwing away their garbage viz. shells. Quite the contrary, they go beyond simple function. Something else was at work, and, as we have discovered, that something else was the ancient land survey of Native America by astronomy.

In that ancient land survey, the sambaqui, i.e. the shell midden mounds of Brazil in the Jabuticabeira region, as we have found, mark the stars of "Jabuti" the turtle viz. tortoise of heaven as seen by the ancients in the stars of Columba (see e.g. Palenque, Burgos Municipality, our Y-Axis). The sambaquis view Columba from the astronomical perspective of Northern Hemisphere peoples, i.e. as the "bottom of the world", where the mythology of the ancients of the Old World also placed the turtle, with the world on its back.

This is eminently clear from our decipherment images below. The first image is a combination of two graphic elements. The left side shows the locations of the sambaqui in the Jabuticabeira region of Brazil and the right side shows the corresponding stars of Columba. Click that image to enlarge. The second image shows only the image of the sambaqui locations, while the third image shows only the star correspondences in Columba, with star positions via the software astronomy program Starry Night Pro at http://astronomy. starrynight.com/. The star magnitude limit was set at 6.5 but we removed a few faint stars to make it easier to see some of the groupings of brighter stars more easily. Note also that the ancients sometimes marked two very near stars as only one star.

PLEASE NOTE:
We have added numbers 1 to 20 to each group of sambaqui and to the corresponding groupings of stars to make it easier to see and identify the correspondences. Most of the correspondences are eminently clear.
