The "Next" Great Google Earth Image Mystery for Archaeology, Astronomy and Archaeoastronomy Buffs has started with this posting for the image found further below.
We ran our first Great Google Earth Image Mystery at the end of the year 2014 and no one solved it.
Then at the end of February we ran The Great Thunderbird Challenge for the World's Archaeologists, Astronomers and Archaeoastronomers : One Petroglyph and 60 Stars! No one solved that one either.
We now give the archaeological, astronomical and archaeoastronomical communities an opportunity to catch up a point with this "Next" Great Google Earth Image Mystery for Archaeology, Astronomy and Archaeoastronomy Buffs.
Below is the image from Google Earth for which of course we know the exact location both on Earth and in the Sky. Click on the image to get a larger view.
What we want to know in this mystery challenge are the answers to the following two questions:

Below is the image from Google Earth for which of course we know the exact location both on Earth and in the Sky. Click on the image to get a larger view.
- Where is the above image located on Earth? It is nearly as large as a football field! We googled the image in Google Image Search and found ... nothing ... only a bunch of junk images not even closely related. Even relevant .kmz files seem not to mark this location. But we are not infallible or all-seeing. Perhaps we have missed a reference?
- What stars could the clearly visible cupmark-like (viz. cupule-like) circular markings represent, and why? We will shortly post this same image with a star map from Starry Night Pro pasted over the image to show the general star correspondence. About that correspondence, there is little question.
