UNESCO National Park of Palenque is a Mayan sanctuary from the classical period and thrived 500 to 700 A.D., so that Palenque is rather modern in terms of many other ancient sites. The Wikipedia writes:
Note how one building not only here but elsewhere can mark multiple stars by incorporating the number of stars into that building as the number of doors, windows, or even simply square or rectangular stone reliefs that are not fully cut through the stone.
We first saw that method of marking the stars years ago when we deciphered the much older Malta Temples as astronomy.
Sometimes the ancients also double up or show multiple stars in one marking by merely making it a long rectangle viz. rectangular construction.
Note that the ancients were intrigued by "empty" spaces in the stars, especially if they formed a recognizable figure -- square, circle, diamond-shape, etc. -- which then could determine the shape of the temple or other building.

Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico Marks the Stars of Columba
"Palenque (Yucatec Maya: Bàak') was a Maya city state in southern Mexico that flourished in the 7th century. The Palenque ruins date [from] 226 BC to around 799 AD.... It is now a famous archaeological site attracting thousands of visitors. Our decipherment below shows clearly that the architectural design layout of Palenque marks stars in a star group we know today as Columba. In making our own simplified drawing and subsequent decipherment of Palenque we relied on a drawing of the Palenque site at Martin Kuilman, Quadralectic Architecture, which should be consulted by those desiring a more detailed presentation.
Palenque ... contains some of the finest architecture, sculpture, roof comb and bas-relief carvings that the Mayas produced. Much of the history of Palenque has been reconstructed from reading the hieroglyphic inscriptions on the many monuments; historians now have a long sequence of the ruling dynasty of Palenque in the 5th century and extensive knowledge of the city-state's rivalry with other states such as Calakmul and Toniná. The most famous ruler of Palenque was Pacal the Great whose tomb has been found and excavated in the Temple of the Inscriptions."
